Name:Kyra
Location:Minnesota, United States
E-mail:kyra_josephine_77@yahoo.com
Bio:My name's Kyra; I'm an artist---drawings, oil paints and ceramics with plans to expand into other stuff when I get the chance and/or the equipment. Things like metal sculpture and glassblowing. I write, usually fanfiction but some original fiction and poetry, and the occasional nonfiction.

I'm an Earth Science major in my last year of college; it's not a particularly good fit for me but my parents managed to convey the idea that art was not an ideal major (they now disclaim any intent to give that impression, but the damage is done). I want to work at Barnes and Noble or an art-supply store, earn enough to make a living and do art on the side, and hopefully eventually making a living completely from my artwork (and writing, if I ever manage to write anything original big enough to publish).

I'm lazy but trying to become more active. I'm halfway through scuba-diving certification, and got a tiny taste of ballet last semester that made me want to try it more; I was too shy to ask to register for the beginner ballet course (it was a permission-required thing) but will do so this spring if it's the same teacher and I can get my friend/roommate/quasi-sister Vice to take it as well. In addition I like kayaking and rock climbing, and go horseback riding whenever I can manage and afford it. Bellydance also interests me, as do martial arts, although I haven't done much with either of them as of yet. I am shy, and hesitant to go out and do things "as if I belong there," because I am not always able to convince myself that I do.

Being an artist, I love beautiful things, the definition of which might be a bit skewed from my perspective. I prefer handcrafted items to mass-produced, and I like things to be decorative as well as functional. I like realism trending towards perfection, rarely get or really like abstract art, and prefer bright, vivid, clear colors and close attention to detail. I like real things as opposed to imitations---i.e. real-stone facades on a house as opposed to cast stone, and actually built and load-bearing rather than with flat stones stuck on the sides to look stoney I tend to like things from many different time periods, with an emphasis on the creations of preindustrial societies.

I love to travel, especially when I'm driving. I love the beauty of nature especially, and this is my main reason for traveling. Some places I really want to go are Hawaii, Belize, and Plitvice National Park in Croatia.

I am a fan of Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Earth's Children, as well as Lord of the Rings and various Age of Sail novels such as those of C.S. Forester, Alexander Kent and Patrick O'Brien. Barnes and Noble is the biggest money suck I've ever encountered.

In appearance I try to tend towards edgy, creative, unique things. Mix pirate and age of sail fashion with steampunk and Renaissance and ancient Egypt, throw in some silks, tribal belly dance costumery, a few pairs of jeans, many leather boots and a few things out of the world of the Tarot of the Cat People, and spatter it liberally with clay or (more rarely) paint, and that's me.

I'm Pagan, bisexual, a cat person (I have three), a constant daydreamer, and perpetually about three minutes late to anything and everything. My favorite food is Concord grapes straight off the vine and still warm from the sun; when I can't get those, I adore almost any fruit, especially peaches and strawberries, and drink too much Mountain Dew. I love to people-watch, and generally fall in love with fictional characters while just lusting after real live people---perhaps because characters tend to be more . . . vivid, like an exclamation point instead of a period---not to mention that since they are fictional I can rewrite their bad qualities; I tend to like the bad-guy dangerous vibe, and feeling like I'm on playing on their level, power-wise. Favorite characters are Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, Anamaria, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape, Anck-Su-Namun; favorite actors are Zoe Saldana, Brenda Song, Alan Rickman, David Midthunder, and probably a few more that I'm not thinking of right now.
